Electronic tachometer and speedometer gauges for Commandos

Gauges

We have been looking for an attractive way of replacing the Smith gauges for some time and finally have a solution that we like. The speedometer is self calibrating, so you can change your wheel size or tire profile and can acurately recalibrate your speedo. An electronic speedo eliminates the rear speedo drive and long speedo cable running the length of the bike. We have manufactured the mounting brackets and speedometer pickup bracket for these electronic gauges. They need to run on a negative grounded bike, so when we complete our new wiring harness, we will be able to thoroughly test them.

When we are satisfied with our testing, we will provide more information and pricing. There is even a very slight chance that we can have the manufacturer put Norton faces on the gauges, but please do not hold your breath.

Speedo pickup
The speedo bracket holding the pickup.

The speedo pickup needs to point at some rotating ferrus metal. We have designed it to point at the webs of our lightened brake rotor. As you can see, all you will see is the wire going from next to the caliper to the speedo gauge.

Old and New
The new gauge size compaired to a stock Smith gauge.
